STREET CAN LINERS 101

Can I say that it was nice to see some of the commercial waste cans out on the curb for the big parade this weekend!

Thank you DPW for having them available for the slim group of spectators that chose to use them.

I am always amazed at the condition of the street
s and sidewalks after a parade or street festival. I get the impression we are performing for animals instead of the other way around.

However, there is one point I would ask of our municipal can maintenance crew. Please find a way to keep the bags from falling in the can at the first breeze. The instant the bag falls in, som
eone will run up and throw half a milkshake on top of the folded bag. This defeats the purpose and makes retrieval near impossible.

Above, you see a can with a bag falling in. Nice example right?
To the left, I am re-setting the bag. I know, there's a glare off my head.

Now, here's the best part. When attempting to steady a bag to prevent it from falling in as soon as you walk away, simply slap a 12 inch strip of duct tape on the outside. Adhere six inches on one side, pull the bag tight, and press the remaining six inches. This is enough to keep the bag stationary for the whole week.

If anyone needs a lesson in person, simply ask, and I'll see that the superintendent makes an hour available one Friday afternoon.

Sounds like you've had enough of half hearted efforts by the street crew. If you continue to pamper these guys as you have, they wont learn their lesson. I know you get worked up when you see them wasting an opportunity, but they are getting paid to do a job. If they cant do it with common sense, then get new help.

You are too funny. I hear the sarcasm in the words you type. I had to gasp for air while laughing at your step-by-step bag installation.

Thanks for the levity.

Oh, I have the same glare off my head so you're in good company.

The duct tape adds to the class of this city. That will look just great. It goes with the tasteless barrels of flowers that you people decorate our streets with in the summer. Come on, get some class.

So whats your point. Gorsline over budget and your giving him a buy out.

Somebody is going to file a grievance against you. You're taking away some precious time from an employee. Just think of the food you're taking away from some DPW family. I can see the unions coming down on you really hard some day Madsen.

to 9:24-when used in the proposed application,it is no longer duct tape,it is used as a trash bag retaining tape, which now comes in new designer colors, for example, black bag-black tape, gray bag-gray tape etc.on a side note, streets lined with thousands of people on sunday looked pretty good early monday morning-good job

Forget the duct tape, comming from someone who worked for NYSOPR, what you do is pull in the slack, roll the excess into a ball, give it a twist, and tuck the ball under. It is foolproof, and won't cost the city a roll of duct tape. :)

Lets put a bunch of cans in front of your house and leave the tape off. Wait until the end of the week and all the food is spilled out to the sides. The rats, mice etc have wreaked hell and the maggots have crawled to your porch. Oh and lets not forget the flies that come with it.
Its common sense all the way. You put the lid on the trash can in your own house don't you?

Hooligan animals for sure...every square foot of the sidewalk was lined with bottles after the parade. An eyesore and disgusting to boot.
I wonder what it would take to simply say "Ok hooligans...next year you can visit the bars in shifts if you like, stay home and drink, and we will stream the parade over the internet, but we will not suffer this litter." It's really stupid--DPW has enough to do. To continue this nonsense is to basically imply that yes, Kingston has nothing going for it except this mess every year and we can't take that away from people because without it no one at all would stay in Kingston.

Way to go Mike- hey channeling to City & County- too bad KPA off the air- The parade would have been a great show for those who were running as well as those that couldnt get out in the Spring like air.

An more important- consider the Street Liner 101 course followed by a history lesson about WW II.
thanks fer listenin'
take care,
Shelly Z

REMEMBER ONE THIN DIME MANDATED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL TO THE CURRENT TIME WARNER CABLE FRANCHISE BILL WOULD ESTABLISH A $740.00 INCOME TO KAPA+ the other municipalities- WOW- a real station- supported by the franchise fee- what a unique idea- oh yeah- the funds would have to be mandated to a special and dedicated account under the auspices of the KAPA commission.

DPW crews do an excellant job. They are understaffed and can barely function. You took away all there extra help. Now you will get less with less. The foreman of the yard waste crew dropped a tree on his head. He wasn't wearing any protective equipment and nothing happened to him except a few stitches. He should have been written up like the garbage crews for picking up two sides of the street. This is what is wrong with this administration. The rules only appy to a select few.

u people sure can talk how about doing ur job and make the deptment heads do thiers by making thier employees do thiers what a suggestion dont you think its not that hard just make everyone who is getting a check accountable for what they do and you will not have these;s problems so stop the talking and do something please
