Well, one actor wants to boldly go where no actor has gone before: Canada. To run for Prime Minister, that is. Against Stephen Harper, who lead the successful shift toward Conservative control in Canada in 2006.
William Shatner, famous for his role as Captain Kirk on Star Trek, is about to make the big leap into politics. He may find that fighting Klingons to be a much simpler task, since you know where their allegiance lies.
Shatner’s ambition came to light in response to a letter from a fan who suggested he put himself up for the post of governor general of Canada. I'm sure one letter wasnt enough of a trigger to create a "Shatner4PM PAC". He must have been thinking about this before. When contacted by the AP, Shatner responded, “My intention is to be prime minister of Canada, not governor general, which is mainly a ceremonial position.”
He added, “As prime minister I can lead Canada into even greater exploits.”
I dont know what affect star power has in Canada, but if it's anything like what we experience here in the US, Shatner has a chance. Love 'em or hate 'em, famous people have sought and won elected positions throughout our history. They dont always have the qualifications needed to do a good job. Some learn on the job.
But considering the cast of charactors running some of the most corrupt and lethal regimes today, I expect Shatner, if he runs & wins, will do just fine.

You're boring.
You bring us great stuff! How about Dave Thomas{SNL 42Beers heh?} Sec of Defense. Canada is like the Grad School for great Comedians like Second City TV, Candy, Flahrety, Ackeroid etc.
Thanks for the scoop, Mike...smitty
Smitty, thanks for the encouragement. I do read plenty of other local Blogs and websites and find them to be a One-Issue headache. Many let their posts sit there for weeks.
If I'm going to have fun on here, doing it daily, I may as well keep em guessing! Never know what I'll find interesting or have an opinion on.
Thanks for all you do for Public Access and being my Blog groupie.
I bet he'll bring some great deals on travel!
Your list of celebrities in politics is much too short and strangely only includes Republicans. Just off the top of my head the names of Al Franken, Hillary Clinton, John Hall, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Bono and Fred Thompson are examples of individuals in both or neither parties who ran using their celebrity.
And what is his top advisor going to say the first day on the job?
"Captain, at this rate we'll reach 2010 in exactly 48 days, seven hours, and six seconds"?
Mike: He's got my vote- He always come through with some great prices for my trips to POW reunions that I attend. The irony is that he like the many other actors and actresses; oops now they are all called ACTORs- but in any case- can you think of any of this group has lost- starting with Reagan, then Sonny and Cher then the good ole congressman from The Love Boat- In reality Reagan followed his buddy- George Murphy to DC- from sunny CalifornIA- oh well- hey do we have some actors here in the city to run for Alderman?
Hey talking about the city- whats new with KPA- why not set in motion Bob Smiths idea of adding a dime to the franchise tax and earmarking it for the KAPA- it would give them $740.00 a month, and this excludes the other municipalities- so this liddle Roosevelt headed coin would create and incredible source of revenue and guaranty that KPA survives- and WHY NOT?
take care,
Shelly Z
and think what 2 dimes would do?
You win the "most diverse Blog Postings" contest. Funny stuff.
