EXTEND THE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

The answer is get a job. Get 2 or 3 part time jobs if that is what you have to do. If you have been on unemployment for 100 weeks and haven't figured out a new plan yet there is a serious problem. My full time job doesn't pay the bills either. I work 1 sometimes 2 part time jobs at any given time to get by. I am tired of hearing from these cry babies. Life is hard as hell out there. Either fight or lay down and give up, but stop telling me that I have to keep covering you.
Right at this moment there are bus companies looking for drivers, a bunch of retail stores and restaurants are hiring, even new york state is hiring prison guards. A matter of fact if you watch the civil service tests you will see that they are basically begging for guards because they can't get enough to take the job and stay there.

Right now there are millionaires who need a tax break because they didn't put enough in the bank this year. I guess we should just lay down and cover for them while they reap the benefit of an extended tax break. Such cry babies.

Unemployment benefits aren't a government handout. It's an insurance policy when we work that we pay high premiums for. A contract with our employer when we take the job. It's no different than your car insurance where people get hit and certain people say..."Oh, please to make the poor insurance company pay!" Bullshit.
This is a policy these folks have invested in and should get what they need to survive while looking for work.

Please get your facts straight. The amount deducted from your paycheck for Unemployment Insurance
is by New York State. This portion covers the first 26 weeks of unemployment. The other year and a half comes from the Federal Government and not is not funded by employee contributions. Please also remember that those on unemployment from a company still in business have much of the benefits paid by that business which is charged to that business during the period of state responsibility. Someone who can't find any employment withiin 2 years is not looking very hard. Sometimes one has to settle for a less than perfect work experience in order to pay the bills.

The system is also flawed in that some people can sit at home on unemployment and earn more than what is available from working. There should be flexibilty with benefits which allow for people to work at lower pay without being penalized for doing so by losing their assistance. There should be a subsidy for those who work for less than what is provided. We should stop punishing those who try to work and reward them instead.
I can personally attest to the inequities built in the system as I lost most of my income as the dealership which I was the General Manager of was put out of business by General Motors during the federal bailout with enabled GM to skirt the state franchise laws. I still was considered employed as I received income as an elected official and thus could not receive unemployment benefits. I also could not receive any disability as the deaslership closed at the same time as my surgery due to lung cancer and subsequent treatment. This is after working for this dealership for 26 years. We have a broken system which needs to be fixed. I've never collected a dime of unemployment benefits in my life and much of my life has been spent working more than one job in order to provide for my family.

I also have this video - along with a few pertinent others up on my blog at Flinging Towards the Sun. Take a look - there - at the full catastrophe and advocate instead of aggravating...

Yes, it is hard as hell out there for the majority of Americans... So take a few hours a week to make your voice [one way or another] heard!

There is radical socio-economic injustice in this country and that needs to be addressed! Self-righteousness will mean nothing when everyone - except for a very select few - are living in ghost towns, shanty towns and under bridges!

Flinging Towards the Sun...

I may not be much, but I do have a grip on the scoop...............!

Say what you want, but 99 weeks is too long. No one is going to take care of you but YOU. So people need to get off their couches and work whatever jobs they can get. That might mean lesser jobs, off hours or more than 40 hours a week. The jobs are out there in this area and until those are filled there is no reason for any unemployment in this area. When all the jobs are filled then we can talk about more unemployment.
