I got an email from the Hinchey staff regarding Hillary's appointment. I thought I would just pass it along.

Washington, DC - Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) released the following statement regarding President-elect Barack Obama's nomination of U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) as Secretary of State.

"New York's loss is the country's gain. For the past eight years, Senator Clinton has honorably served the people of New York in the U.S. Senate. Senator Clinton is a friend and has been a dear ally in the Senate. She has been an advocate and strong leader for a wide range of critical issues facing our state and nation -- from economic development, to health care, and of course international affairs.

"While those of us in New York will no longer have her as our senator, we, along with all Americans, will have her as our secretary of state. With a strong record of accomplishment, Senator Clinton is well-positioned to navigate the many complex dynamics around the world in an effort to promote and expand peace, human rights, justice, equality, and freedom for all.
Difficult times demand strong leadership and Senator Clinton will undoubtedly meet that demand as she serves our nation as secretary of state. I am very much looking forward to the dawning of a new day under the strong and thoughtful leadership of President-elect Obama and Senator Clinton."

Let me say the obvious: Hillary Clinton as a choice for DIPLOMAT is about as good a job match as a Church Mouse for President of "Cheese United States!!"

That's such crap.

Hillary was never from New York.

It's about time a real New Yorker gets to hold the NYS Senate seat.

Her taking the Senate seat from a real New Yorker is as bad as the influx of welfare recipients flowing into Ulster County from all over creation to collect welfare because we don't have a residency requirement her to collect welfare.

Thanks Ulster County Legislators!
Dems have been in power long enough to undo this wrong.
Could someone please take care of that?

When I think about how close Hillary got to being the Democratic nominee and she still gets one of the most powerful cabinet positions...I am thankful.

Sure, we'll make due with a replacement, but it was quite the dynamic status having the former first lady as our Senator. Not to mention her tough-as-nails demeanor on the Senate floor.

I expect that wont change when she's dealing with heads-of-state.
