HAPPY EARTH DAY

Earth Day, celebrated April 22nd,
is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year.

The movement brought together all the like minded groups that were protesting the oil spills, toxic waste dumps and poisonous smoke stacks across the country.

Since those early days of pure protest against the industrial giants and stubborn government, we've seen the idea of Earth Day meld into a social badge of honor. [as it should be]

From statewide initiatives to the home town clean-up groups to the solitary volunteer along the banks of the Hudson River; you see a shift in the way people appreciate their environment. But we still have a long way to go.

So let's make everyday Earth Day. Whadda ya say?

i gotta tell you, Mike,

even if it is a subject i have no interest in,, you're blog is always a great read. SOme of the posts are intelligent & thoughtful too, which is rare on most of these political blogs,, so much of what i read on the blogs is left & right wing extremism & hatred, i lose faith in the public, ( not that i had much to start with )

You at least try & give us the benefit of the doubt & treat us like intelligent adults.

THANK-YOU,, wish you rep'd more than just your ward, tho,, there is a dearth of respectful, smart leadership in the City & Ulster County especially,,,

It's Saturday and the sun is out! Everyone get out there and clean something in your neighborhood! Earth Day should be everyday and it starts around your homes.
Happy summer!

For the first time in a while, I got the kids out there and helped clean some of the neighborhood yesterday. it makes you feel good while and after you're done. The kids might not realize it yet, but I do. In time, they will too.
