BI-WEEKLY RECYCLING: GET READY

I dont have to tell you what I think about the changes in Recycling collection here in the City of Kingston. This going to change the way we all store our separated waste.

Here are my seven buckets of recycling that I put out this Monday. What do you suppose my curb will look like when I place another week's worth at the same curb?

How are we to expect the citizens of this city, who already resist separating their trash, to join the noble cause of recycling when the bottles & cans will now linger in the back yard for two additional weeks?

I know the press has publicized the matter to death (after the change happened of course), but who's idea was it to make this policy change? Alderwoman Andi has already voiced her opinion on her blog, several others have been in the papers, but why did this happen in the first place? Shouldnt the Council been notified so that they could inform their constituents?

You know the nine Aldermen would have hand delivered fliers to our doors had they been alerted beforehand.

Seems Landi was the only one to know about the change. Schupp and asst superintedent Ed Sweeney made the change and they treat everyone like mushrooms. Kepp them in the dark and feed them sh__t

Rank and file at DPW had no input on new procedure, but word is they don't believe it will work. They tried that 25 years ago and it didn't work then. Expecting DPW to do twice the work with the same manpower is a bit much.

This time of year they struggle to keep up with one week of yard waste. Yard waste will start to pile up this weekend and wont get picked until next week.

Mike you did vote to lay off 14 laborers so you helped create this problem.

Just don't blame the DPW workers they are doing the best they can.

Please tell me you are not the only person in your home. That is an awful lot of items to be recycled. I have a wife and three kids and I take less then that to the transfer station when I go every two or three weeks.

This idea is Superintendent of Dpw Mike Schupp's. Too bad he is in North carolina vacationing while all the poop hit the fan without him and his staff notifying anyone. The aldermen and the workers were left holding the bag, although it is not thier fault.

mike, what do you expect from a supervisor (schupp), that doesnt live in our community? Schupp, i believe, lives in Highland. Also, his idea of mixing dirt with salt to lay down on our streets during winter was an ass-o-nine idea. That maybe what is done on highways and country roads but not in a residential city like kingston! The dust on our windows and homes is atrocious.

A grounds keeper and a mechanic running the DPW. No wonder were in a mess. This is a stupid idea. Now I have to go our and buy a bigger container to put my recycling in.

The work I did yesterday on my lawn will have to sit in the can for 2 weeks. This is great a 10% tax hike and less services.

Now only the people who do not recycle won't have cans left in front of their houses. Nice tourist attraction.

How is it that the DPW doing less saves money when the Fire Dept doing more doen't cost anything?

I am scheduling a Ward lit drop anyway on Saturday April 10 from 12pm-2pm. We are meeting at Deisings on Broadway. As it was explained to me, the mailing explaining the new policy will only be going out to homeowners. As we have a large number of renters in Ward 5, we will be dropping lit at their homes. In addition, we are dropping flyers about the Neighborhood Watch meeting and the monthly Ward meeting (2nd Friday of the month). I hope you can join us!

What more are the firemen doing? Sleeping later. Not many fires. Must have been a rush of people locking their keys in their car.

Next year we will have to pay almost 8 million dollars for them to do less with more. They will no doubt win back the jobs they lost, once it reches arbitration.

6:56 has a whole discussion of this one that's worth the "whole enchillada."
What has the council done to advance recycling? NOTHING. All talk and no action. All bluster and no substance. And all barriers and no incentives.
The council sat there and indulged Sottile to express himself "in as creative a manner as he is capable of doing"(Hahah yeah I know) with DPW. Allowed him to hire Schupp in violation of Charter 110-2. Voted Schupp's affirmation according to 110-4 thereby bowing to Emperor James--who expressed he doesn't appreciate city residents all that much by so doing. Come on. People aren't stupid about this. Voted off 14 workers in DPW and also decided to back Sottile's villification of nonprofits in the city by this deliberate activity to withdraw garbage pickup from them to villify them and thus supposedly score political points or enough to survive the next election perhaps by such a policy--what in the world? And did away with stint work policies in DPW which worked very well for years. Is there any more? Hmm we can only speculate....
You know, in the old days this sort of stuff was called incompetence(today we know it by a different "spin term" of course), and it's called political pandering to please as many people at the same time while just compromising on doing the right thing in DPW. Can anyone IMAGINE had there been NORMAL SNOWFALL THIS WINTER--WHICH THERE WASN'T--but the next time that happens DPW had better be prepared manpowerwise otherwise folks are going to be angry--and I wouldn't doubt not just a little-- about that too.
If Kingston were not such a bullcrap town people who perpetuate such policies would be run out on a rail. Lumpy dumpy grumpy Sottile would be among the first on the train out. Landi is another creep and pig who's been around too long and the rest of them are for the most part predictable lapdogs.
The very first thing the city of Kingston NEEDS to do--and I mean like "YESTERDAY"---is to MERGE with the Town of Ulster. That is clear from so many standpoints you can't begin to fathom the contrast on many practical levels once that is done--if that is done of course. Pols like lumpy dumpy grumpy frumpy Sottile don't want to do it because such a move will put some of them out of a job. Plus Sottile in his fragile ego would have to talk to the higher intellectual achiever Jim Quigley--and Sottile would sooner move to Alaska to play ice golf with an Eskimo woman than to humble himself thaaat much(well let's be clear---"at all") and do thaaat. Wouldn't even do it for old times' sake from Coleman High days. Pfffff.
Isn't it nice to know the county is run in a slightly more professional way--and to be a part of that better fun now Mike??

9:39, you are on fire baby, and you are totally correct!! You said more in this post about what is real in Kingston, man. Lennon said once, "gimme some truth" and that you just did. The incompetency that I see in this city at the upper levels of gov't stagger me and there is no end in sight. However, if we keep punching, maybe we can make a difference! If we keep saying the truth about what really is going on, like there is a big elephant in a corny tie sitting in the living room and his name is Sottile, maybe we will get where we wanna be. Furthermore, what went on with the hiring of Schupp and actually breaking rules just to bring in this guy from freaking Highland has to stop as well! There is certainly nothing special about Schupp that would warrant doing so...

Why don't we try paying all government employees half what they are getting now - like every other week - I mean all of them. There are many people out of work who would do a better job for half their pay and benefits.
