I have said all too many times that the residents of the City of Kingston should stop resisting the notion that we are indeed a city. If we are to start building our tax base while adding quality office and residential space, we have to build UP.
If you click on the Kings Inn above, you'll get an idea of what I think should be a goal for this site. Whether the public or governing body agree with me is outside of my knowledge at this time. But if we are to put out an RFP to any developers who may be interested, show them this option and see who steps up to the plate.
Feel free to imagine different styles and building materials, but the general idea is to think and act like a city. Thoughts?

Although not to scale, I get your concept and I like it. The issue here is would someone invest that kind of money in an area that even the council seems to ignore?
Investment firms study a great deal before approaching a city planning board. So far, you're the only one who thinks "if you build it, they will come"
The best solution, at least in the . The short term, may be to remove the current building and have a "site ready" site for future development. The building next door is nice and would look good until a new building could be built. Kingston is not a easy place to do business and the taxes are very high and the area is unsafe. Ever try and go through the planning board process in the city....
Alderman Madsen, I like your idea.
I see you buttered up Sottile by including a Drug Store in your rendering, that should allow it to fly by the planning board.
I suggest that Kingston, NY follow the model of Saratoga Springs, NY. They do not have a mall, they have a downtown. They have the same stores as the malls, but right on Broadway. It will provide jobs which is the crux of the problem in Midtown Kingston, no work. It will help existing businesses and it will help UPAC.
If you clean up Broadway, it will eventually make it's way into the adjoining neighborhoods. This is a good start.
Keep this up and we may start calling you Mayor Madsen instead of Alderman Madsen. One this is crystal clear, you are wasting your time in the Legislature. That do nothing body is a waste. The Republicans and your friends Bernardo and Zimet have turned it into a political witch hunt and that is about it.
Get away from those dysfunctional people and your buddy Woerner before it is too late. Come home to Kingston and get to work!
What is your vision for all of the upper floors? N
I like that concept, minus the freakin' drugstore. Can think of a quite a few businesses for the type of building structure plus it fits in with the rest of the buildings on the street. Unlike Walgreen's, Rite Aid. Too bad we didn't have a master plan and design guidelines in place when the recent buildings were built. Could have avoided the urban blight that is currently in existence.
