Just a public safety reminder for all who have overhead exhausts above their kitchen stove. Don't forget to clean the grease screen once in a while. The picture above is the Kingston Fire Department visiting 110 Henry Street this past Wednesday afternoon. There was a small fire in the kitchen due to the build-up above the stove. No-one was hurt.
The best guess is that the landlord neglected to clean it between tenants and it may have been this dangerous while the former day care was operating at this location.
Once the residence was secure, the firefighters asked that people should be made more aware of just how volatile grease can be when unattended like this. This visit cost the city taxpayers a few dollars, but could have easily cost a few lives.

Nice work Alderman Madsen! At least stay in your own ward.
That would be Legislator Madsen, but you'd be right about the district...I was in the 12th. Shame on me.
What do I have to do to represent the whole city?
Perhaps the renter could have taken it upon him or herself to do a cleaning of the vent??? After all, they do live there?? Should have been a regular part of cleaning a home.
maybe the City Fireman could distribute safety phamplets to households during their 4,000 medical calls each year?
I agree 4:33. Or when they are handing out Sottile/Noble lit.
Maybe you can go door to door with your little buddy Nick and deliver pamphlets.
Are we going to have another front page story about the brave firemen doing thier job?
You're all having WAY too much fun with this.
